Sister Act

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Trying to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with a very tough-and very married-gangster boyfriend named Curtis, and when Deloris witnesses him commit a murder she ends up in hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn't agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she's never had before.

DELORIS VAN CARTIER:  A feisty, strong-willed, larger than life character. Curtis' bit on the side. Brought up a Catholic and taught by nuns, she has rebelled against her upbringing. She has dreams of becoming the next big singing sensation, which Curtis keeps promising to make happen for her, but never will. She eventually finds what she has been seeking where she least expects it.

Age Range: Mid 20s to early 30's
Voice: Mezzo-Soprano
High Note: F#5/Gb5
Low Note: E3
Vocal Technique: Belter

MOTHER SUPERIOR:  Haughty, well spoken, stickler for rules and routine with a tough exterior, but she is not so confident when alone with God. We see a softer side to her by the end of the show. She really doesn't want Deloris in her convent.

Age Range: Early 50's to 70
Voice: Mezzo-Soprano
High Note: E5
Low Note: D3
Vocal Technique: Legit

SISTER MARY ROBERT:  A small, postulant nun. Very timid and quiet, until she eventually finds her 'voice'. She hasn't chosen to be a nun; she is only there because she knows nothing else.

Age Range: 16 to Early 20's
Voice: Soprano
High Note: A5
Low Note: F#3/Gb3
Vocal Technique: Mix

SISTER MARY PATRICK:  A large, bubbly, excitable, over the top, larger than life character. Very innocent and not at all worldly-wise; everyone's friend.

Age Range: 35-50
Part Size: Supporting
Vocal Technique: Legit

MONSIGNOR O'HARA:  A friendly, good natured gentleman. Always bright and positive, even though his parish is almost non-existent and faces closure. He loves the change that Deloris brings to his church.

Age Range: 40's-60
Voice: Baritone
High Note: G4
Low Note: E3
Vocal Technique: Legit

CURTIS JACKSON:  Confident, chilled out, gangster who runs the night club Deloris performs at. He is always in control of the people around him, his actions and any situation he finds himself in. He is untouchable, or so he thinks.

Age Range: 30-40
Voice: Baritone
High Note: G#4/Ab4
Low Note: G#2/Ab2
Vocal Technique: Legit

EDDIE SOUTHER:  Police Officer - Totally uncool. Bit of a nerd, but there is a cool guy hidden inside him, waiting to get out. He is often downtrodden but takes everything in his stride and is a good cop.

Age Range: 25-35
Voice: Tenor
High Note: B4
Low Note: G#2/Ab2
Vocal Technique: Mix

TJ:  Youngest of Curtis' henchman and his nephew, which is the only reason he has the job! He is naive, daft and childlike and easily manipulated. Finds humour in everything he can.
